Playground closed due to Asian Hornet nest

The playground at the Millennium Town Park has been closed for safety reasons today (14 September) after an Asian Hornet nest was discovered.

The invasive species, which arrived in Jersey in 2016, is a threat to honeybees and native insects.

If a nest is disturbed, they can react aggressively to defend it, and can sting multiple times.

In a post on social media, Jersey's Infrastructure Department said the playground may also be shut tomorrow and will provide an update later today.

The rest of the park is open as normal.

An online map and reporting form were set up earlier this year to make it easier to report Asian Hornet sightings.

The biosecurity team at the Infrastructure Department received around 4,000 reports of Asian Hornet insects and nests in 2025, mostly via email.
