Plea to take care on coastline after surfer rescue

Credit: RNLI Jersey

RNLI lifeguards are urging islanders to take care around the coastline this weekend, after they rescued a surfer who was caught out by the rapidly incoming tide.

A member of the public spotted the surfer in trouble on Wednesday evening (9 September) and called Jersey Coastguard on 999.

Lifeguards quickly spotted him and used the PA system to tell him to stay calm and out to sea behind the breaking waves, while a rescue vessel was launched.

There are large 11.5m tides tonight and over the next couple of days, with advice to:

  • Check tide times
  • Be aware of tidal cutoffs
  • Speak to lifeguards if unsure

The latest tide times and information can be found here.
