Sinking boat rescued during Jersey Air Display

Credit: JLA

A sinking boat with four people on board was saved by a Jersey lifeboat crew during this week's Air Display.

The JLA inshore vessel was providing safety cover for Thursday's show (10 September) when, just after 3pm, it was tasked to a motor boat anchored in St Aubin's Bay that was rapidly taking on water.

The Albert Pinel scanned the area and saw the stricken boat's occupants waving for help.

Two were transferred onto the lifeboat, while one JLA crew member went onboard the vessel with a salvage pump.

They worked with the French-owners  - a professional mariner and marine technician - to pump water from the engine bay and find the breach.

They managed to tow the boat to St Helier Harbour by 4pm.
