Fundraising by the people of Jersey has given a little girl with a rare condition the 'best possible start', with treatment that has seen her stand by herself for the first time.
Three year old Amelia Seren is blind and has developmental delay due to a gene mutation.
In July, we told you how her family was raising money to get her on a three-week intensive therapy course at NAPA in London, a leading paediatric therapy clinic.
An online crowdfunding page collected more than £7,000, with a fancy dress football match in the summer adding £3,000 to the total.
After the first week of physical and speech therapy there, mum Vicky has given an update to Channel 103 on how she is doing.
"She is doing so, so well. So she's having three hours of physio a day, two hours in something called a neuro suit, and one hour of DMI therapy, and then an hour speech and language therapy as well.
"She's showing some amazing progress, getting up from the floor to standing, cruising around the furniture like toddlers learn to do, and she's also working on crawling. She's actually really, really close to crawling, which is really exciting."
Vicky has also seen her daughter stand by herself for the first time:
"She stood on a board that was on top of a ball, and then the therapist kind of holds the board underneath her and corrects any movement that she has so that she's able to stand up pretty much independently. So that was the first time that she experienced standing without anybody holding her, and she really, really enjoyed it!"
Family and friends will continue fundraising by running in relay teams for the Jersey Marathon in October.
