A new book, Wild Swims Guernsey, is diving into the island’s love of swimming, and raising money for charity.
Local author Nick Wild has brought together stories, history and contributions from people and organisations involved in Guernsey’s swimming culture.
His book, Wild Swims Guernsey, will make its debut at this year’s Swimarathon.
Proceeds will be split between the event's chosen charities and the Sports Commission.
He says the book should cover everything about swimming in the Bailiwick:
"Why you would swim, how to learn to swim, the safety and life-saving aspects of swimming, which of course are absolutely vital.
"Swimming clubs and swimming groups in Guernsey, so the people I've been talking about that I've spent the summer meeting and on occasion swimming with.
"Then there's a piece about the Guernsey swimming environment, everything from the sort of tidal ranges to current swimming conditions, marine life you might encounter."
Nick is self-publishing the book and having copies printed locally.
He says keeping the project local will keep the costs down and help maximise the amount raised for charity.
"It's really just the printing costs that have to be covered by the sale price; everything else is going to go to charity.
"I'm having 1,500 printed. I don't know whether that's over-ambitious or under-ambitious; I'm not sure. We'll find out soon enough.
"But if we can shift the 1,500 then you know there'll be a substantial amount of money going to those charities to help some very good causes."
