"No serious incidents" were reported in Guernsey during the first storm of the season.

Leaves ripped from treetops, bin bags and caddies scattered across roads, and the odd tree tumbling.

The general consensus is that Guernsey got through Storm Austen, with severe gale-force 9 winds and gusts up to 76 mph, largely unscathed.

The island had plenty of warning ahead of the high winds, and precautions were taken - States' schools closed, businesses delayed opening, and the roads were quiet as most people appeared to follow the stay-at-home advice.

Guernsey Harbours has reported only minor impact, including ripped covers and several vessels requiring pumping out after taking on water during the storm.

The Brittany Ferries Voyager sailings are showing as cancelled this weekend but it is worth checking if you are booked to travel.

Beau Sejour did suffer some storm damage to the concourse entrance, leading to classes and performances being cancelled last night.

Guernsey Airport pushed back opening until 2pm, but eventually all departing flights were cancelled.

It has re-opened today and Ports expect it to be extremely busy.

The Longue Hougue recycling depot is closed all weekend as a building nearby has some loose roof panels. It will be assessed on Monday.

For safety reasons the Millennium Walk around the reservoir is closed this weekend.

The Dairy says yesterday (23 October) was basically "business as usual", despite the challenging weather conditions, with no impact on milk production.

For most children in Guernsey, Storm Austen meant an early start to the half term, with October half term next week.

The South-west of England reportedly bore the brunt of the wet and windy conditions, with thousands of homes losing power and rail cancellations.

The weather forecast for Guernsey remains pretty dire, with heavy downpours expected all Saturday as the whole of the UKL is under the influence of the second named autumn weather event, Storm Boelo.
