Guernsey man to attempt 1000 mile challenge

A Guernsey man is preparing to walk 1,000 miles in 28 days to raise money for Les Bourgs Hospice.

Mark Prevel was diagnosed with chronic emphysema in 1993, aged 31.

The lung condition can make it difficult to breathe, and Mark was told he wouldn't see the turn of the millennium.

After undergoing three surgeries, Mark recovered and began taking on extreme physical challenges to raise money for charities supporting people in need.

This June, he will attempt to cover 1,000 miles in just four weeks, in support of Les Bourgs Hospice.

The challenge will take place in Guernsey, with Mark fitting the miles around his work schedule.

"It's all based on a 15-minute mile, so I want to get four miles in every hour.

"I'd love to cover every lane and road that I possibly can.

"I'll do a few circuits for the first four days next week, doing roughly two marathons a day, and I'll be moving between 12 and 13 hours."

Some days, Mark plans to head out the door at 2am and keep moving until 6pm.

On Friday next week, he will join the Saffery Walk at 5am and continue walking until 5pm on 6 June - 36 hours of movement, with only short naps along the way.
