Guernsey FC to fight for promotion at Victoria Park

The Green Lions are getting ready to host Peacehaven & Telscombe FC in the Southern Combination Football League Play-off Final.

After a long season of highs and lows, GFC is getting ready to host their first-ever Play-off Final at their new home, Victoria Park.

The Green Lions will host Peacehaven & Telscombe FC at Victoria Park tomorrow (23 May), with kick-off at 1.30pm.

At one stage, the match looked set to be moved to mainland UK because of “complex travel arrangements”, but GFC have welcomed the decision to keep the final in Guernsey so home fans can cheer them on.

The last time the sides met, the Green Lions thrashed the East Sussex side, 6-0.

A win tomorrow would secure promotion for the Guernsey side.

GFC Director Nic Legg says the stand sold out in an hour, but there are still some standing tickets available.

He described the occasion as the perfect finale to the club’s first full season at Victoria Park:

"At the start of the season, we set a target that we wanted to reach the playoff final, and our dream was to make sure that playoff final, if we could, was here in Guernsey at Victoria Park.

"We just can't wait to give islanders in Guernsey, but also fans that are travelling in for the game, the experience of having a home playoff final.

"It's something we've never had before, and it's something that we're really excited for.

"I feel there's a real buzz not only around the club at the moment, but also on the island.

"Everywhere I go, people who don't normally come to the game are speaking to me about it, and that's a great sign."
