Election 2025: Candidates to meet young Guernsey voters

Guernsey's Youth Forum has arranged an event for prospective candidates to outline their priorities to the island's youngest voters.

The Youth Forum, an elected group that advocates for young islanders, is inviting all 82 people standing in Guernsey's June election to GROW's Coutanchez site this evening (27 May).

Candidates are encouraged to explain their political priorities and summarise their manifestos into 150 words.

Project lead Eva Redelinghuys says polling day, which is 18 June, comes at a stressful time for students.

"A lot of young people are really, really struggling with having to balance making an informed vote with their exams, and we think that nobody should have to try and choose between those two.

"By bringing candidates and young people together, we're trying to make a difference and reduce the stress that is on our young people at the moment."

Eva says it is important that the next generation engages with politics.

"We're trying to teach people how to vote, because it is a process you have to learn: how to apply, when to show up at the polling station, and what you're going to do at the polling station.

"When people learn to do that at a young age, they are more likely to internalise it and grow up thinking that voting is something you do every election, not just once off."
