The departure of Theo Leijser is confirmed by the States, the fifth Chief Clerk to leave the role in as many years.
There has been speculation since mid December that Mr Leijser would no longer continue in the role and that has now been confirmed by the States of Alderney.
His previous jobs include heading up the Isles of Scilly Council and leading on regeneration for Ayrshire Council.
He was appointed as Chief Clerk, or CEO to the States of Alderney in late 2023, and took up the role in 2024.
His interim replacement will be his current deputy, Elizabeth Maurice.
She last held that position before Mr Leijser's appointment. The brief news release says she will cover the role 'pending further consideration as to the permanent recruitment to this post.'
Mr Leijser's departure, and the resignation of two States members, throws into question the current stability of the States of Alderney.
Nigel Vooght, who held the most senior role as the head of Policy and Finance, tendered his resignation in mid December 2024, citing political infighting and a breakdown in his professional relationship with the president of the States of Alderney, William Tate.
His departure was followed by that of Bruce Woodhead, another relatively new member of the States of Alderney, who leaves midway through his first political term.
A by-election to replace both will be held on 8 March 2025.
