New Dean of Guernsey has Alderney connections

Matthew Trick at the ‘Blessing of the Boats’ service in Alderney, 2023.

Matthew Trick will be installed as the Dean of Guernsey in late September having recently been Alderney's locum priest.

Matthew Trick was Alderney's locum priest between 2023 and 2024 and says it was the perfect introduction to the islands:

"My family and I already know and love the islands through our time on Alderney and visits across the Bailiwick.

"I am committed to serving the whole Bailiwick, listening well, building relationships and supporting the mission and ministry of the Church in
every island community."

As well as being the senior Anglican church figure in the Bailiwick, Matthew Trick will become the vicar of St Peter's church in Sark.

The Venerable Matthew Trick's appointment was approved by the King.

The interview panel consisted of the Lieutenant Governor, the Dean of Jersey and senior church figures in the Bailiwick.

Matthew Trick is married with two young children and will move to the island in late August. He will be installed as the Dean of Guernsey at the Town Church on 29 September.

His previous ministry includes south Wales, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire and Dorset as well as Alderney. His first career was in banking before being ordained in 2009.

He replaces the very reverend Tim Barker who retired as Dean in late July.
