The body that reviews aviation incidents has opened an investigation into what it terms a "serious incident" with one of the planes chartered by Aurigny earlier this month.
On Monday 12th August, a 72-seater ATR operated by Lithuanian airline Jump Air attempted to land in Guernsey in fog before returning to Southampton.
The aircraft was brought in to cover Aurigny's GR651 flight from Southampton to Guernsey due to ongoing technical issues with its own fleet.
After circling Guernsey for around 45 minutes, the flight attempted to land.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch says the aircraft was just 56 feet off the ground when the captain decided to "go around" - or abort the landing.
This is below the minimum altitude for the conditions, according to the French investigation authority BEA, citing its British counterpart.
The aircraft climbed and returned to Southampton as landing in Guernsey that night was impossible.
