Social media has lit up, congratulating Alastair Chalmers, despite him finishing last in his Olympic 400-metre hurdles heat.
Footage from last night's semi-finals show Guernsey's Alastair Chalmers clipping the seventh barrier and falling.
The 24-year-old had changed his stride to improve his times, but the move ultimately ended his Olympic dreams.
After getting back up, Chalmers finished 8th, in 56.52 seconds at Stade de France.
He took to social media shortly afterwards to thank fans.
"I'm all good, thank you for everyone who's reached out. I'm so proud of how far I've come and where I'm at.
I just got caught up racing these guys and that's how it goes, but I'm glad I got myself up and finished."
Islanders have been commenting on his determination to finish the race and ability to qualify for an Olympic semi-final in the first place.
The Outgoing International Island Games Association Chairman Jörgen Pettersson called Chalmers a hero.
"Fantastic performance to make it to Paris, small margins and bad luck.
Thanks for being a true inspiration and ambassador for Guernsey and islanders in the family of International Island Games Association!
You are a true hero."
