Guernsey Police have joined a UK wide anti-corruption and abuse reporting service.
Run by the independent charity Crimestoppers, it provides an anonymous and confidential route to reporting concerns about criminal behaviour by police officers and staff.
The Police Anti-Corruption and Abuse Reporting Service covers information relating to officers and staff who:
• Provide information or influence in return for money or favours.
• Use their policing position for personal advantage - whether financial or otherwise.
• Cross professional boundaries or abuse their position for sexual purposes.
• Abuse or control their partner, or those they have a relationship with.
• Engage in racist, homophobic, misogynistic or disablist conduct, on or off duty, in person or online.
Crimestoppers takes reports relating to any police force in the UK as well as Guernsey Police.
The information can relate to the conduct of staff whether they are on or off duty, online or in person.
Reports can be submitted online www.reportpoliceabuse.co.uk and telephone calls are free on the 0800 085 0000 number.
People making a report to the service can choose to remain anonymous.
Crimestoppers will pass the information it is given to the Bailiwick Law Enforcement’s Professional Standards and Counter Corruption team, who will assess it.
They may then pass the information to specialist detectives to begin an investigation, take steps to safeguard someone at risk or in danger, or record the information to inform future investigations.
Head of Law Enforcement Ruari Hardy says it reflects the force's determination to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
"Bailiwick Law Enforcement have and always will take complaints by members of the public very seriously, and while our Professional Standards team work very hard to investigate them, we will always welcome additional ways for the public to make reports.
I am confident the vast majority of our staff act professionally and in good faith in the course of their duties, but we must always be prepared to deal with those who fall below this standard."
