Guernsey experiences hottest July on record

Jersey Met confirm that last month was the hottest July in Guernsey since records began in 1843.

The average temperature last month was 19.5 degrees Celsius, almost 3 degrees above the 30-year average.

It followed a heatwave in late May and a second exactly one month later.

In late June, Guernsey recorded its hottest ever temperature, of 36.4C.

July 2026 brought Guernsey's third heatwave of the year.

The month was the island's fourth sunniest and fifth driest on record, with measurable rainfall on just three days, equating to just 5.4mm.

This combination has prompted sensible water usage advice from Guernsey Water, as reserves go down.
