Abandoned vehicles removed from Guernsey car park

Two abandoned vehicles described as an "eyesore" have been removed from public property at no cost to the taxpayer.

The Environment & Infrastructure Committee has removed two abandoned vehicles from Portinfer car park with help from Ozzy Ozanne Recoveries.

The cars were scrapped free of charge by the Guernsey Recycling Group.

Traffic and Highway Services identified the vehicles as abandoned in early May.

Notices were placed on the cars and letters were sent to the registered owners, giving them a chance to respond before the vehicles were removed.

Deputy Andy Cameron, from Environment & Infrastructure, says this is a good example of the 'Guernsey Together' spirit

“Abandoned vehicles are not only an eyesore, they can also become a source of pollution and detract from our public spaces.

"I am keen to ensure that genuinely abandoned vehicles are identified and removed, while also making sure that we follow the correct process and do not take action against vehicles that are still in legitimate use.

“I would like to thank Ozzy, Faye and their teams for generously providing their services free of charge.

"Their support has enabled these vehicles to be removed at no cost to the taxpayer and is a great example of local businesses working with the
community for the benefit of the island.”

There are plans to remove several other abandoned vehicles around the island, including at the former Grandes Rocques Bistro site and in the Village du Putron area.
