A woman has been jailed for four and half years for trying to bring cocaine into Jersey.
Emma Louise Llewellyn, who is 39 and from Stoke on Trent, was stopped off a flight from Liverpool last November.
She told Customs officers she was visiting the island for the weekend to see a friend.
Swabs of her baggage detected the class a drug, and 52 grams with a street value of £13,000 was found concealed on her.
When interviewed, she admitted trying to import the drugs and said she was to have been paid £1,000 for doing so. She said had a £350 debt to the person who gave her the cocaine.
Paul Le Monnier, Senior Manager at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, said: “Individuals will be offered payment or the ability to clear debts by attempting to import drugs, on behalf of others, but the huge risks involved, and the sentencing handed out by the Courts should be a clear deterrent”.
