Three taken to hospital following tumble dryer fire

Three people were taken to hospital after a fire in a basement home in St Helier.

Firefighters were called just after 6pm on Tuesday (17 June) and found a tumble dryer ablaze.

The owner had tried to tackle the fire, before getting everyone out.

They had been alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm.

All three were taken to A& E as a precaution, having breathed in smoke.

Jersey Fire and Rescue says the fire is believed to have started within the electrical components of a tumble dryer that was being used at the time.

Watch Commander Ryan is reminding people to always get out fast in a fire and call 999.

"We would strongly discourage members of the public from attempting to tackle fires themselves.

"Fires can develop rapidly, and smoke can become life-threatening within minutes. If a fire occurs, leave the property immediately, ensure everyone is accounted for, close doors where possible on your way out to help contain the fire, and call the emergency services”.
