Surprise starts for Jersey triathletes on Supertri's return

Two Jersey triathletes got a late call up to race alongside the sport's elite as the Supertri returned to the island or the first time since 2021.

Thousands of people lined the Waterfront to see the Super League Triathlon make a comeback after a four year absence from the island.

Heavy rain eased and the sun came out just in time for the action.

Luxembourg's Jeanne Lehair (29) won the women's race, keeping Podium Racing top of the team leaderboard going into the final showdown in Toulouse on 5 October.

Stars & Stripes Csongor Lehmann, from Hungary, was the men's winner.

Slippery conditions in the cycling lead to some of the athletes - including Britain’s multiple Olympic medallist Jonny Brownlee - crashing before 26 year old Lehmann surged to victory.

Crown Racing’s Vasco Vilaça suffered a five second penalty for a goggle infringement in transition.

At the finish line, Lehmann described the race as 'intense from beginning to end.'

“Winning a Supertri race is huge – it’s a dream becoming a reality."

Young Jersey triathletes Siena Stephens and Luke Holmes had both been expecting to be Supertri spectators, but ended up racing alongside the world's best, including Team GB's Jonny Brownlee and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

The pair described the experience as 'crazy' and 'amazing'.
