South Hill skatepark gets green light

A skatepark will be created at the reversing bays at South Hill in St Helier.

Plans for the first phase of the work include installing the skate equipment, landscaping and fencing, toilets, covered bike parking and CCTV.

Planning officers recommended the scheme be approved, and the Planning Committee voted in favour at its meeting today (19 March).

The skatepark will eventually be moved to Fort Regent as part of its redevelopment and the area turned into a cycle park.

The government said the project was part of its plans to improve provision for skateboarding across the island.

Funding was allocated in the 2026-2029 Budget.

A long-awaited near-£2million facility opened at Les Quennevais in 2023.  An area on the New North Quay in St Helier closed later that same year.

Minister for Infrastructure, Andy Jehan says it's a much‑needed facility for young people and families in St Helier:

"The project team has worked carefully with stakeholders to ensure the design is safe, considerate of neighbours, and aligned with our longer‑term plans for Fort Regent.

This skatepark is an important step in meeting community needs and offering a positive space for active, healthy recreation."
