Politicians want Condor to confirm 'adequate provision' for ferry services until spring

A Jersey Minister has written to Condor seeking assurance over the future of the Channel Islands' ferry services until March 2025.

As the island gets closer to finding out which company will take over the ferry contract - which is up next spring - politicians are questioning if there will be continuity of services.

Deputy Montfort Tadier asked the Economic Development Minister if he had sought assurances from Condor that existing bookings would be honoured or fully refunded in the event that the company is not awarded the contract.

It is expected the winner will be announced this month with DFDS, Condor and Irish Ferries all in the running.

Deputy Kirsten Morel says that should the contract end next year, he 'fully' expects the company and its stakeholders to have made adequate provision for the continuity of services until March 2025: "I continue to seek adequate assurance on this point from the board of Condor and wrote to them recently on precisely this point.

"I do sincerely hope Condor and its shareholders, Brittany Ferries and Colombia Threadneedle European Sustainable Infrastructure Fund will provide this assurance to me."

Condor Ferries' CEO, Christophe Mathieu, says:

"We have been in communication with Deputy Kirsten Morel regarding our current Operating Agreement and remain committed to working collaboratively with stakeholders on the continued delivery of services."
