More schools join sports programme

A programme getting the island's youngsters active is more than doubling in size this academic year.

Jersey Sport's SPORTIN SCHOOLS was trialled in the last academic year, with eight schools involved in eight different sports.

The 2025/26 programme will welcome 18 schools participating in 13 sports, delivering more than  500 hours of sport during the school day during the autumn term.

In addition, a dedicated pilot scheme being run at Beaulieu will target activity levels among teenage girls

Chris Riley, School Sport Development Officer, said:

"This programme is a clear demonstration of our commitment to supporting sport and ensuring that children across both primary and secondary schools have access to meaningful and inclusive sporting opportunities within the school setting."

Sports involved in the programme include rugby, netball, cricket, athletics, padel, hockey, kickboxing, squash and football.
