Changes to St Peter diversion due to drivers ignoring signs

Some changes have been made to diversions through St Peter because of motorists ignoring the signs.

The Infrastructure department says in one 45 minute period last Thursday afternoon, 236 cars were recorded flouting the signage.

58 went through a 'no entry' barrier, and 178 drove southbound past M&S only to have to turn around and rejoin the diversion.

The main road through St Peter's Village closed to all traffic between Sir George Carteret pub and Croix au Lion last Monday as part of ongoing draining upgrades that are due to go on until April 2026.

Residents have complained about re-routed drivers speeding along Green Lanes and 20 mph zones.

The Infrastructure department says, following feedback and lessons learned last week, it has made some changes to improve safety and traffic flow whilst the roadworks continue.

"From Monday 20 October until April 2026, all southbound buses, including school buses, will follow the southbound vehicle diversion route via La Rue de Hague. The maps show where the temporary bus stops will be located."

"To support this change, La Route du Manoir will be made temporarily one-way southbound (i.e. from St George’s School towards La Grande Route de St Pierre) until April 2026."

"The current northbound bus diversion route will remain in place, using La Rue de L’Eglise and La Rue de la Pointe."

The department is asking motorists to respect the restrictions, which include:

La Grande Route de St Pierre  - CLOSED. There is currently no access south of La Ville du Bocage.

La Verte Rue  - CLOSED.

ACCESS FOR RESIDENTS ONLY:

La Rue de Sapins;

La Rue du Presbytere;

La Ville de l'Eglise;

La Rue du Bocage;

La Ville du Bocage; and

La Grande Piece.
