After 5 months of collecting bricks and planning with LEGO enthusiast Steph Porter, the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation (PPBF) has completed a life-size LEGO bench.
Matthew Girard was just 12 when he died of cancer in 2020.
In January 2026, the PPBF launched an appeal for pre-loved LEGO bricks to create a life-sized bench built with bricks Matthew used to love to play with.
10,000 LEGO bricks were donated.
The bench will be unveiled at St Martin’s Primary School today (3 July), where Matthew used to play and learn.
Jo Priaulx, co-founder of the charity that supports Guernsey families with seriously ill children, says Matthew has not been forgotten.
"The idea of the memorial bench has been in the works for some time, so this is going to be a big moment for Sarah and her family.
"The bedroom in Frankie’s Den, one of our Southampton-based flats, is LEGO themed in honour of Matthew, so it’s very special to have something here on the island that can be enjoyed by the community.
"Thank you to everyone who has worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life."
