By saying 'no thanks' to a daily room clean, guests at the Sarnia Hotels Group can help island charities.
The idea of swapping a room clean for £2 may seem a little odd, but that is what the Sarnia Hotels Group is encouraging its guests to do for charity.
The initiative began two years ago and has raised an impressive £14,000 for Guernsey Trees for Life.
As well as helping a good cause, the aim is to be more eco-friendly because it cuts down on water and chemical use, something MD Karel Harris is enthusiastic about:
‘It’s a simple choice during a stay, but collectively it has made a real, meaningful difference."
Now, Karel says two different charities will receive a slice of the housekeeping charity:
"We are pleased to support At Home in Guernsey and The Tumaini Fund.
"Both charities make a genuine difference to the people they help, and it is encouraging to know our guests are helping to contribute to their work during their stay."
At Home in Guernsey was set up to tackle the island's hidden homelessness problem and has already seen and helped an increasing caseload.
The Tumaini Fund operates off island and was founded and is run by local GP Dr Susan Wilson:
"We support orphans in remote and desperately poor north west Tanzania, where we build houses for destitute families, provide clean water wells to replace filthy, infected surface water sources and support our orphans into education, some to degree level.
"Donations through this scheme will be invaluable to enable us to provide these services, and we are deeply grateful to Sarnia Hotels for this initiative."
