The King’s Baton Relay arrives in Guernsey today ahead of next month’s Commonwealth Games.
In March 2025, His Majesty King Charles III, as Head of the Commonwealth, placed His Message to the Commonwealth into the first baton.
For the first time, each nation and territory is getting its own baton to customise and decorate.
All 74 batons will be brought together at the opening ceremony of the games in Scotland, and the message read by King to declare the competition underway.
Today (25 June 2026), the baton arrives in Guernsey.
It will be shown around the island to various groups before taking its final journey to Glasgow in time for 23 July.
The baton will be at various sports clubs and venues this week, and members of the public can see it at Pembroke beach on Saturday.
Thursday 25 June
Sir Richard McMahon will officially welcome the King’s Baton to Guernsey at the Royal Court.
Friday 26
The Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club in St Martin’s will get to see the baton at a training session.
Saturday 27 June - PUBLIC EVENT
Those participating in a Beach Clean with Clean Earth Trust at Pembroke Beach will see the baton.
Saturday 27 or Sunday 28 June - PUBLIC EVENT
Team swimmers will be with the baton at Beau Sejour.
Monday 29 June
Possible trip to Sark or Herm – weather dependent.
Local Sixth Form art students received their own blank wooden baton for decorating, which will also be on display around Guernsey.
