Gavin St Pier is P&R Vice-President

Former Chief Minister Gavin St Pier has been chosen to be Vice-President of Guernsey's Policy and Resources Committee.

P&R met for the first time since it was constituted last week.

Poll-topper Lindsay de Sausmarez was voted P&R President during the first States sitting of the newly-elected Assembly.

Her picks for her top-team - Deputies Gavin St Pier, Jonathan Le Tocq, Charles Parkinson, and Steve Falla - were all backed by deputies.

Deputy St Pier has now been confirmed as P&R Vice-President. He was previously in charge between 2016 and 2020. He said:

"I’m very grateful to have gained the early support of my colleagues. In this role, I look forward to serving the Committee and supporting the President.

"The mandate of the Policy & Resources Committee is vast, and I know from experience how challenging it is given its role in providing leadership and coordination to the work of government.

"Many of the challenges faced by our island are, at this point, well-documented and it’s essential that this Assembly makes significant progress in addressing them this political term."

Deputy de Sausmarez said she has a very experience P&R committee, and 'Gavin’s experience as a previous P&R President will be invaluable'.

P&R will meet again on Tuesday (8 July)
