The My Breast Friend app has recieved a grant from The Invicta Community Fund.
Gemma Ainger designed The My Breast Friend app in 2024 after her own breast cancer diagnosis.
The app sends regular friendly reminders for users to check their breasts, helping them understand what their normal is, so they can spot changes.
Gemma says early detection can save lives.
"I did have stage three, I had 27 lymph nodes removed, and I am now treated as high risk for breast cancer recurrence.
"I'm turning forty-four this year, and my life has completely changed.
"If I've been checking, my surgeon told me that it's highly likely that I could have spotted it sooner.
"But because I wasn't checking regularly, I didn't recognise that it was something abnormal that I should get looked at.
"So that made me do this, that made me want to create something that would help other people just get into that self-care routine."
The free app has received a grant from The Invicta Community Fund to help cover running and hosting costs.
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, with 1 in 7 women diagnosed in their lifetime.
The app is available on iPhone and Android.
