Full deployment of Guernsey's search and rescue assets off Herm

Looking from Fisherman's Bay to Bear Beach on Herm's west coast.

A person was reported swept out to sea by the tide at Bear's Beach on Herm on Sunday (16 July).

Guernsey Coastguard say that a passer by saw a person and their dog struggling in strong spring tides at Bear's Beach in Herm and raised the alarm.

This is the large sandy bay past the Mermaid pub that faces Guernsey.

In response, Coastguard deployed the two St Peter Port lifeboats, Channel Island Air Search and the Flying Christine was diverted from the annual Sark Sea Service.

The two lifeboats were on the scene 15 minutes after the call out.

Crew discovered that the person and their dog had been helped out of the sea unharmed.

The emergency response was stood down but Coastguard say it is a reminder of the danger of currents and strong tides in Bailiwick waters.
