WATCH: Challenging weekend for Blue Islands after delays and mid-air engine failure

Blue Islands has suffered a challenging weekend, with delays, cancellations and an engine failure.

Islanders and visitors have been sharing online that they experienced a trip 'from Birmingham to Birmingham' after flight SI2265 had to carry out an emergency landing.

The ATR-72 made the landing at Birmingham Airport on Sunday (25 May) in 30-mile-per-hour crosswinds and with just one engine after the other suffered a failure shortly after takeoff.

Airport Action on YouTube called the landing a 'miracle'

"I feel like I've just witnessed a miracle.

"That's what they're trained for.

"Pilots are angels of the skies."

Pascal L, from St Ouen, says on Tripadvisor that one of the engines 'gave up mid-air'.

"Booked a flight from Birmingham to Jersey. Got a surprise theme park ride instead.

"We swerved along dramatically back to Birmingham and landed with all the grace of a shopping trolley hitting a curb.

"Bonus? Got the next day off work thanks to aviation-induced emotional damage.

"Didn’t get to Jersey, but I did get a free panic attack and a story I’ll tell at every pub forever.

"Cheers, Blue Islands. Never again (unless I fancy a bit of light trauma)."

Martyn R also wrote on TripAdvisor, calling the airline a 'disgrace' to the industry.

"Booked a flight with Blue Island on the 25th of May at 2:00 pm, flight didn't take off until 3:10 pm.

"Halfway way we had to turn back due to engine failure. The landing was terrifying.

"On landing, we were escorted to the terminal and sat there for five hours before we were told to collect our cases.

"No representative from Blue Island was in attendance.

"The next morning, we were given a flight at 1:00 pm, which I declined as I don't feel safe enough to fly with this airline.

"I have tried to contact them without reply. Our overall experience has been a nightmare; avoid at all costs."

Andy on TripAdvisor backed this claim, calling the flight 'absolutely terrible'.

"Engine failure, emergency landing and dreadful after care.

"No help or assistance, explanations, not even an apology.

"Totally disgusting and put us off flying for life.

"Next time, I dread to think what the outcome will be, but thankfully, we are both alive."
