La Capannina has today shared the news that its well-loved 'restaurateur extraordinaire', Tino Rossi, has passed away.

Tino worked at the Star Hotel at Weighbridge, Hotel l’Horizon in St Brelade’s Bay, and the Lobster Pot at l’Etacq.

He opened the doors of La Capannina in 1966, the restaurant now being in its 60th year.

Offering a traditional fine-dining experience, it has long been a favourite with loyal patrons for its white linen tablecloths, silver service, tableside food preparations such as flambé, and enticing dessert trolley.

The restaurant says:

"In La Capannina, Tino created an institution that generations of islanders have enjoyed, an amazing legacy which continues to serve up the very best in traditional fine dining. Tino, we salute you. R.I.P."

It says Tino passed away on 29 May 2026.

Islanders are remembering Tino as a 'legend among the hospitality industry and a knowledgeable, kind and generous man', with others adding he was a 'true gentleman' and 'one of the best.'

Islanders and visitors alike are thanking him and the restaurant for the fond memories they have made there, sharing memories of wedding lunches and childhood dinners at La Capannina.

Anne shares that the restaurant has now been a feature in three generations of her family.

Steven writes to Tino, 'Enjoy your long and leisurely lunch with your fellow restaurateurs.'
