A St Helier hotel was evacuated when alarms sounded and smoke was seen on the second floor.

Jersey Fire and Rescue was called to the Premier Inn on Bath Street just after midnight on Friday (22 November).

Two engines and crew from Red Watch attended, with two firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building.

The hotel's duty manager directed them to the smoke-logged area.

All the hotel guests had been evacuated.

Firefighters found the source of the smoke, but there was no fire. The cause is being investigated.

The smoke was cleared and the residents allowed back to their bedrooms.

JFRS has thanked the hotel staff for how they dealt with the incident.
