A 34 year old man is starting a seven year prison sentence for sex offences, including indecently assaulting two women.
Police say Nathan Thomas John Jordan, originally from Leicester, subjected his victims to years of abuse.
Jordan also admitted one count of possessing indecent images of children and one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The Royal Court heard how he downloaded four images and used 'sophisticated encryption' techniques to mask his online activity.
Jordan's defence lawyer argued that as a journalist, he had a legitimate reason for using the 'dark web' browser installed on his laptop.
Crown Prosecutors said he also tried to pervert the course of justice by asking his wife to delete potentially incriminating data from his online cloud account while he was on remand.
Jordan was arrested at Stansted Airport last year and brought back to Jersey to face the charges.
Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith said his offences were "very serious" and warranted "a substantial prison sentence".
He was also given a 10-year restraining order and placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for the same length of time.

“These women were exposed to Jordan’s controlling and coercive behaviour over a period of time and have shown immense strength and courage in reporting this abuse.
“This has been a long and complex investigation, with officers bringing Jordan back from the UK to face charges and we hope this sentence today will help the two victims recognise that justice has been given and assist them in moving on with their lives”.
