Sauna club planned for Jersey's Waterfront

Sauna Society wants to expand to St Helier with a new social wellness and recovery club on the Waterfront.

The owners of the popular sauna spot at St Catherine's are looking to open a health-based hub with a heated magnesium pool, six ice baths and two 20-man communal saunas.

Cole McLean, Founder of Sauna Society, also wants to see the space used as a social hub, with islanders able to use a recovery lounge and seating area when waiting for, or taking a break from, the facilities.

"What I love about the sauna is you put your phone down, you get your swim stuff on, you jump in and can have great conversation with people for up to an hour.

"Moving to St Helier and having a facility where we can hopefully cater for up to 30 people hourly is a no-brainer for us.

"I've had people who had recently moved to the island, and these people had a conversation in there and struck up a friendship, and they still visit weekly, now they have each other since coming here after not knowing anyone.

"That's the main part of it, we want to be a big family to everyone and a big hangout, wellness space that caters for everyone."

The development is in collaboration with Jersey Development Company, which is also planning to rejuvenate the surrounding land.

JDC's proposed redevelopment includes an outdoor pool, a new cinema and more than 980 new homes.

3D Model of the new Sauna Society Wellness and Recovery Club

Saunas on wheels became popular in Jersey around late 2023 and early 2024, with both Sauna Society and Sandy Toes making waves in the community.

Since then, the pop-up recovery experiences have been introduced in St Catherine's, West Park, Sommerville, Greve de Lecq and occasionally St Ouen.

It costs islanders around £15 for a session, which is shared with up to six people at a time.

Sauna Society estimates it will be around £20 a session at the new club, which is open to all islanders.

However, people will be able to buy 'strictly limited' memberships, which will give access to early bookings and discounted fees.
