Islanders might not be able to use Rouge Bouillon until Easter.
Motorists and pedestrians have warned to expect a section of the ring road to remain shut until well into spring.
The issues have been caused by a burst water main on 18 December, which caused a sinkhole under the road.
Following this, the walls of a building on the corner of Rouge Bouillon and Clarendon Road became unstable.
Engineers are assessing the damage, to repair the property and ensure the road is safe for islanders.
However, the repair work is expected to 'take some time'.
The government says it understands the closure has a 'significant' impact on daily travel.
"These delays are necessary to ensure the safety of all road users and residents.
"Travellers are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes when accessing town. The road will only reopen once the buildings are stabilised and all risks of structural collapse have been mitigated."
