Rise in Jersey workers with grievances about their employer

The Jersey Advisory & Conciliation Service (JACS) - which supports islanders with disputes - is reporting an increase in people contacting it.

JACS says there are more people in Jersey than ever needing its help regarding their job.

It is reporting an increase in enquiries of up to 10% year on year.

The service has also revealed that cases are becoming more complex, with the majority including some element of discrimination.

Disability discrimination was reported as being the most common prejudice complaint.

2023 also saw nearly double the number of people coming forward with queries surrounding being dismissed.

In addition to the challenging workplace disputes, JACS says employers are still not getting the basics right.

"More than 6% of all contacts related to employers who have failed to provide their employees with a written statement of terms or with itemised pay statements."
