Reform Jersey to change party name

Members of Reform Jersey will choose a new name for the political party because of the increasing prominence of Nigel Farage's Reform UK.

A meeting of party members has voted for a consultation on changing the party name.

Party Chair Helen Evans says, following disappointing election results, it is clear a new identity is needed:

"Given the ever-increasing national media coverage of Nigel Farage’s party, it is clear now that we do need to change our name and we are now bound by the motion passed at this evening’s AGM to take action on that by the end of October."

Deputies Lyndsay Feltham and Montfort Tadier will co-lead the party for now, after a secret ballot of members was tied.

Former leader Sam Mezec lost his seat in last month's election.

The leadership election will be re-run at a later date.

Helen Evans said they had not anticipated a tie.

".. it reflects the considerable strength of the party in that we have two highly capable members of the parliamentary party who are prepared to take on the role of Party Leader and who both have the support of a substantial number of party members.

Helen Evans was re-elected as Party Chair, David Rotherham as Party Secretary and Mericia Andrade as Party Treasurer all unopposed.

A further ten party members were elected to the Party Executive Committee, some of whom are continuing on that committee and some who will be new to it.
