Police issue description of stranger who approached schoolboy

Jersey Police have issued a description of a man they want to speak to about a boy being approached outside his primary school.

The Year 6 pupil was outside Grouville Primary School at pick-up time on Monday (2 February) when a man came up to him and said,  ‘I know your mum and I’ve come to pick you up’.

The boy declined and the man left.

Jersey Police are investigating  and have given this description.

"The male is described as white, aged in his forties, around 5ft9 tall, bald and clean shaven. He was wearing a black beanie hat, navy or black winter coat down to his knees and tight fluorescent jogging leggings. "

The force has appealed to the man to contact them.  Officers are also asking for any witnesses or dashcam footage.

They say this appears to be an 'isolated case', although they understand it will cause concern for parents and students.

The Community Safety team has stepped up day-time patrols in the area at drop-off and pick-up times.

Headteachers have written to parents to give reassurance that they remain vigilant and are reminding pupils of what to do if they are unsure of something or someone around them.

That advice is to say no, walk away, and tell a trusted adult.
