A new hangar is set to be built at Jersey Airport, on the site of the former cargo centre.
Gama Aviation has won a bid to build a 60,000 square feet hangar and business aviation terminal.
It has now released images of the designs it has been working on with Ports of Jersey and the Planning department for the development.
It will include a maintenance site for the island's aviation operations, alongside upgraded facilities to transfer patients to Jersey's air ambulance.
Subject to planning approval, the new facilities will be built within two years to BREEAM sustainability standards.
BREEAM is an internationally recognised grade, and Gama Aviation plans on using some recycled and reused materials.
The company is also considering using solar PV electricity and air source pumps to heat the building in the winter.
Marwan Khalek, founder and Chief Executive of Gama Aviation, says the aviation industry will always require modern facilities capable of supporting the evolution of aircraft.
"Since 2016 we have looked to invest in a hangar facility, supporting the Government of Jersey’s economic development objectives and preparing the way for the future of aviation whether that is in its current form or eVTOL (electric vertical take-off and landing), hybrid propulsion or hydrogen."
Gama Aviation says the project aligns with the Economic Development Minister’s Delivery Plan, published earlier this year:
‘To support the aviation sector towards sustainable growth, and to position Jersey as a global leader in the field of new aviation technologies…Government will collaborate with partners across the sector and among its key stakeholders to develop Jersey’s first dedicated Aviation Strategy by September.’
Matt Thomas, Ports of Jersey CEO, says it will bring many benefits:
"The construction by Gama Aviation of this new hangar will both benefit the island’s aviation industry and provide new job opportunities for local people.
We are keen to develop opportunities to increase the island’s visibility, attract inward investment and support local job growth in the aviation sector, while also boosting commercial aviation support services."
At the end of the lease term, the hangar will be handed back to Ports of Jersey, becoming part of the airport estate.
