Jersey's Police Chief is warning islanders who drive dangerously that they will face the courts if caught by a new, mobile safety camera.
Unveiling the force's new piece of road safety kit, Robin Smith told Channel 103 that speeding and anti-social driving are in the top five concerns for islanders.
There have been reports of cars breaking the speed limit and noisy convoys of cars racing around the island in the early hours of the morning, which is causing disruption.
He says prevention is better than enforcement.
"My hope is that [this new safety camera] acts as a deterrent.
"We're going to calibrate it quite high, so it will be [aimed at] people who are bordering on dangerous driving.
"If this camera captures them, they will find themselves before the courts for really quite serious offences."
The equipment uses lasers and a 'sophisticated' camera which reads number plates and takes a photograph of the car to accurately measure its speed.
Robin Smith says the timing of its introduction to the island is perfect, ahead of Christmas party season.
"We see people enjoying and getting ready for the festive period, which often means more parties.
"What you'll see increasingly is us saying 'Get Home Safe'.
"That is about people being responsible, thinking about how we look after each other as we get home, and of course, some of that is linked to those who may choose to chance their arm in terms of driving after having too much to drink."
