Honorary Police in St Helier say they're seeing more cyclists travelling at 'excessive, and at times, dangerous speeds' in pedestrian areas.
That's despite cycling not being allowed in:
- West's Centre
- Halkett Street
- Bath Street (between West's Centre and Queen Street)
- Queen Street
- King Street
- La Colomberie Precinct
- Royal Square
In a post on social media, the honorary force said:
"Some (cyclists) have been weaving between pedestrians, who quite reasonably aren’t expecting bicycles to be travelling amongst them. It’s a spectacular strategy if your life goal is to turn a shopping trip into an obstacle course.
"The vast majority of cyclists are considerate and respectful. This reminder is aimed at the small minority whose behaviour is putting others at risk.
"Please respect the restrictions and help keep these areas safe for everyone.
"Where necessary, officers will take positive action. Depending on the circumstances, this may include reporting offenders to a Parish Hall Enquiry, or where appropriate, arresting individuals for any offences identified.
"Let’s all do our part to keep St Helier’s pedestrian areas safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone."
