A 40 year old man has been sentenced to six months in prison by Jersey's Magistrate's Court after sexually touching a 17 year old girl without consent.
Isaac Njuguna Mukuru approached the victim in a park before grabbing her her hand, biting her neck and trying to kiss her.
Shortly after the offence, the teenager told a relative what had happened who reported the incident straightaway. Mukuru was then arrested nearby.
The man pleaded guilty to sexual touching without consent on 8 November.
Alongside his six month prison sentence, Mukuru will be placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for five years.
It has also been recommended that he is deported after being released from prison.
Detective Sergeant, Alasdair Castle praised the teenage girl for coming forward:
“The States of Jersey Police recognises the courage it took for this young victim in coming forward and having the confidence in us and this enabled us to achieve the right outcome in this case.
"We wish to reassure all victims of crime that we understand the difficulties and concerns in reporting these types of offences.
"However, we will ensure they are supported throughout the criminal justice process and will work tirelessly in bringing sexual offenders to justice”.
