Mladen Jevtic is attempting to climb to Everest base camp to raise money for Acorn, after being inspired by a young man called Jake.
Mladen, who's known as Mo, spends his Tuesdays supporting Jake, who has disabilities, at the Acorn plant nursery.
They work together and then have lunch at the café, and Mo describes it as the highlight of his week..
"I am passionate about the support that Acorn provides, particularly to young people. Tuesdays with Jake are the highlight of my week. I’m a bit of a joker and we always have a laugh."
Everest's base camp will not be the first trek Mo Jevtic has taken on. He has climbed to a similar height before but was struck by altitude sickness, which knocked his confidence.
However, after the pandemic, it was decided that the carer and his wife Irena would take on a nine day trek, ascending 500km each day, to raise money and do something for the community.
"After Covid and after what we have all gone through, I am thinking you only live once, and you have to use the opportunities in your life and do something meaningful. I want to give something back to the community.
What I’m doing is a one-off. What young people who have a disability go through is every day of their life. They have to overcome obstacles, they have to fight and mustn’t give up."
Mo - the owner of Nightingales care agency - hopes to do a Zoom call with Jake at the highest point he can get internet connection, to share some of the atmosphere and experience.
The couple will set off for Katmandu later this month.
