Vice Admiral Sir Jerry Kyd has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Southampton.
He says he studied Oceanography and Biology there 'nearly 40 years ago'.
His Excellency and Lady Kyd are supportive ambassadors of the University of Southampton.
Lady Kyd recently spoke of her personal and professional experience of healthcare at the University of Southampton’s annual medical innovation event, which was hosted in Jersey in May.
The University has just unveiled plans to build a new medical institute in Southampton, which will bring the 'greatest minds' in medicine, computer science and engineering together in one building.
It is set to create a fast-paced approach to medical research, which will benefit Jersey's community.
The project is said to bring together medics and researchers to look closer at diseases and conditions such as cancer, dementia, sight loss, infectious diseases and allergic conditions.
His Excellency says he and his wife, Karen, are excited to be supporting this.
"As the Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey, I know how many Jersey people already benefit from specialised and routine health care at the University Hospital of Southampton Trust already, which is just great.
"I am very proud of the increasingly close links between Jersey and Southampton Hospital and the University."
