Jersey's hospitality sector faces changes with new Alcohol Licensing Law

Politicians have agreed to overhaul Jersey's alcohol licensing rules, shaping the future of the island's hospitality sector.

Jersey's Economic Development Minister, Kirsten Morel, wants the system streamlined, with the introduction of three categories.

The seven original ones will be reduced to just on-license, off-license, and events.

It would also see the Regulation Directorate take over responsibility for applications.

They were originally handled in the Royal Court, but it is believed that changing this would further streamline the process.

An Alcohol Policy Group will also be set up to help shape guidance - the Attorney General has been removed from this list, after politicians approved an amendment from Scrutiny.

Deputy Alex Curtis also lodged an amendment, which would see bars, clubs, and restaurants giving customers free tap water, upon request, if they can do so.

Until now, there was no law in Jersey which required the hospitality sector to do so.
