Jersey Sport Performance Pathway athletes have success in Orkney and beyond

Podiums at the Island Games, and Commonwealth Games hopes - Channel 103 caught up with recipients of the Jersey Sport Performance Grant 2025.

Island Games success and Commonwealth Games hopes are some of the updates from the recipients of the Jersey Sport Performance Grant 2025.

This year, Jersey Sport is supporting 19 athletes from 12 sports.

They each excel in their sport, on the track, in the water, and on the ice.

Evan Campbell, Mollie Perrett, Bradley Andrews-Callec, Ollie Cadin, Tom Huelin, Ellie Grant, Isaac Thompson, Matthew Deffains, Megan Hansford all represented Jersey at the Island Games in Orkney.

All of them medalled, with their fair share of golds.

Decathlete Evan Campbell currently sits in the UK's top 10 for his sport.

He is looking to build on his success in the Island Games - where he took home three golds and one silver, and is aiming for the Commonwealth Games.

He talked to us about his recent successes and hopes for the future:

"I've had a really great season and the performance pathway has been a massive help, I moved to Manchester at the start of the year and the financial aspect has been a big part in smoothing that transition.

"It's great to feel like the island is behind you and feel like the sporting authorities on the island see you and they've made me feel like a valued athlete.

"A highlight of Orkney was running an Island Record and winning the 4x100m relay, and then I've also come back from the National Champtionships where I won a bronze medal in the decathlon.

"I think I've shown this weekend that even though I've been struggling with a few things, I can turn up to championships and perform and win medals when it has to be done.

I want to carry that forward to the Commonwealth Games next year."

Archer Mollie Perrett, who cleared the board in Orkney and is also on the Performance Pathway, hopes to make it to Las Vegas on the world stage:

"It's helped me to be able to put myself out there more on the international stage in competing.

"Both the Vegas Shoot and Kings of Archery in the Netherlands are part of the indoor world series, and both shoots are around £200 to enter.

"Especially being a smaller sport that isn't out there as much, it's nice to be on the programme and get recognition.

You see a lot in sports media of football and netball, it's nice to see people from smaller sports be recognised and given that opportunity."

Mollie took home 3 golds, a silver, and a bronze from Orkney.

Elliot Powell, Head of Sport and Community at Jersey Sport says they're glad to have the resources to support Jersey's top athletes to the top of their game:

"Our Performance Sport Pathway helps reduce barriers to high-level competition by providing essential funding and support services that enhance both performance and development.

"At Orkney 2025, athletes from both the 2024 and 2025 programmes delivered an outstanding medal haul, demonstrating the real impact of this targeted support.

"We look forward to continuing to back our talented athletes throughout the rest of 2025 and beyond.”
