Jersey population stable but ageing as migration falls

Jersey's estimated population was unchanged at the end of last year at 104,500 people.

Latest data from Statistics Jersey suggests net migration fell to its lowest level in three years.

180 more people moved to the island than left, and there were 200 more deaths than births.

The data reveals more evidence of Jersey's ageing population.

Residents over the age of 65 have increased by 15% in five years, while the number of under 16s fell by 7%.

Without people moving to island, the number of working age people would be falling by around 370 per year.

The estimates also demonstrate the ongoing impact of Brexit.  Britain left the European Union in January 2020.

The number of European nationals living here is down 9 percent since 2020, while the non-European national are up 177% - equating to 3,500 people.

Also in that time, the number of residents on temporary work permits is up from 80 to 1890.
