New Jersey Opera House CEO appointed

Sebastian Warrack is the new Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Opera House, following a year of high level departures.

Jersey Opera House Limited has announced the appointment of Sebastian Warrack as CEO from January.

He is coming from the UK where he has been Executive Director of Wiltshire Creative and Salisbury Playhouse.

The theatre's board says he has a 'distinguished record of leadership in the UK’s cultural and performing arts sector' and 'extensive experience of producing theatre, festivals, touring and collaborating with national and international cultural organisations'.

The search for a new Chief Executive began after interim director Andy Eagle resigned in the spring.

The board is also n its third interim chairperson of this year - Laura Robertson - following the departures of Dave Chalk just weeks after Andy Eagle left and then long-standing board member Cyril Whelan, who spent less than eight weeks in the top post.

Non-Executive Director Bruno Santos-Costa also stepped away in the summer.

All this was happening as the theatre prepared to reopen after a five year closure and a major publicly-funded restoration.

Curtain officially went up at the 125 year venue in October following its £12.7 million refurbishment.

JOH's Board of Directors Interim Chair, Laura Robertson, said Mr Warrack's appointment marks a significant moment in the theatre's new chapter:

"His proven leadership, deep industry knowledge and passion for the arts make him an exceptional choice to guide the organisation forward."

On accepting the position, Sebastian Warrack said he is 'hugely honoured'.

"I greatly look forward to working with its brilliant staff and board to develop the theatre’s next chapter together.

"I would like to pay tribute to my predecessors for establishing solid foundations on which we can base the theatre’s future, and I look forward to building on their achievements.”
