999 operators have reported a single Jersey mobile calling the emergency services more than 3,000 times in the last month.
The police don't believe they are emergency calls, and think they are more likely to be a toddler or child playing with an old smartphone without a SIM card.
Phones that don't have a SIM or any credit can still call 999 or 112 if they are switched on and have battery power.
Emergency operators are asking islanders to check their children are not dialling 999 when playing with phones.
They say they need to make sure so as many phone lines as possible are free in the case of a real emergency.
The calls started on 6 May and are known to be from a Samsung device with no number associated to it.
They usually start from 7am until 12pm and 3pm to 9pm.
