Jersey heroin post smuggler jailed

A man who smuggled up to £13,500 worth of heroin into Jersey via the post has been jailed for five years.

A letter packet was intercepted by the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service (JCIS) at Jersey Post on 7 May 2026, which contained 30g of the drug that had been vacuum-packed.

JCIS carried out a covert operation the following day, when Luis Nunes, 37, was arrested after he took receipt of a substitute parcel at a St Helier address.

Investigations showed the address the heroin was sent to was where Nunes used to live.

Senior Manager at Jersey Customs and Immigration Service, Luke Goddard, said:

"A ‘deal’ of heroin can be sold as one tenth of a gram, so whilst 30 grams may seem to be a relatively small volume, this amount had the potential to be distributed widely.

"JCIS continues to prioritise seizing harmful Class A drugs and prosecute those responsible for importing them."

Anyone with information on drug smuggling can report it anonymously via 0800 735 5555.
